DO NOT PASS A STOPPED SCHOOL BUS
It is against New York State Law to pass a stopped school bus with it’s red lights activated even in a loading zone such as a school parking lot. Penalties for doing so are:
1st offense- $150 minimum to $250 maximum or 30 days imprisonment or both.
2nd offense- within 36 months: $600 minimum to $750 maximum or 180 days imprisonment or both.
3rd offense- within 36 months $750 minimum to $850 maximum or 180 days imprisonment or both.
Safety tips for students:
- While waiting for the bus whether in your driveway, at the bus stop or at school wait at least 15 feet away from the roadway.
- When getting ready to get off the bus, stay seated until the bus comes to a complete stop.
- During loading and unloading follow proper crossing procedures at all times. If you are unsure of what the proper crossing procedures are please ask your bus driver to explain them to you.
