The New York State Education Department has defined a new diploma designation for students earning the Advanced Regents diploma to recognize achievement on the math and science Regents exams. This new designation allows students who entered grade 9 in 2009 and thereafter to earn an Advanced Regents Diploma with a designation of mastery in math and/or science as described below:
~Advanced Regents Diploma with Mastery in Math: The student must complete all course and exam requirements for the Advanced Regents diploma and score 85 or higher on each of the three required math Regents exams: Integrated Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2/Trigonometry.
~Advanced Regents Diploma with Mastery in Science: The student must complete all course and exam requirements for the Advanced Regents diploma and score 85 or higher on any three science Regents exams. (Note: While the Advanced Regents diploma requires only two science Regents exams, the Advanced Regents Diploma with Mastery in Science requires three science Regents exams.)
~Advanced Regents Diploma with Mastery in Math and Science: The student must complete all course and exam requirements for the Advanced Regents diploma, score 85 or higher on three math Regents exams, and score 85 or higher on three science Regents exams. Note: students earning these diploma designations must complete all course and exam requirements for the Advanced Regents diploma, including 3 credits in a Language Other Than English (LOTE) and the LOTE exam. (3). Compensatory Option for a Student with a Disability to earn a local diploma (approved as an emergency adoption of an amendment to section 100.5 of the Commissioner's Regulations on October 31, 2012) Summary: Students with disabilities who score less than 55 (45-54) on one or more of the required Regents examinations * may graduate with a local diploma if they compensate with scores higher than 65 on other Regents examinations (*English and Math scores must be at a score of 55 or higher).
